About Ty

Legal Experience & Education

Ty began his legal career in private practice at the respected law firm of Walker, Brown & Brown, P.A. in Hernando, where he concentrated on Chancery matters. Since 2019, he has served as a staff attorney for the Third Chancery District in DeSoto County, entrusted by the Senior Chancellor to conduct legal research in complex matters and with the drafting of orders and opinions. In this role, he has worked on hundreds of Chancery cases involving family law, estates, guardianships, and property disputes.

Through this work, he has gained firsthand insight into the daily operations of the court and the complex issues routinely addressed in Chancery Court. He has also been selected on multiple occasions to serve as a Special Master, conducting hearings on behalf of the Court. Together, these experiences—both in private practice and within the judiciary—have provided Ty with a well-rounded perspective on the courtroom and the administration of justice.

Ty is a cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he finished in the top 15% of his class and served as an associate editor of the Mississippi Law Journal.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University, graduating summa cum laude. While at MSU, he was selected for the Society of Scholars (top 2% of graduates), the Shackouls Honors College, and was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate for ranking in the top 20% of Army ROTC cadets graduating and commissioning nationwide.

Military Experience

Ty enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard at age 17 and currently serves as a Major. He has deployed overseas twice, including leading more than 100 Soldiers in a combat zone in northern Syria as part of Operation Inherent Resolve and training Ukrainian forces in Germany.

Throughout his 18-year military career, Ty has served in a wide range of leadership roles—from Platoon Leader and Troop Commander to Executive Officer of a Cavalry Squadron of more than 400 Soldiers. His service has been recognized with multiple federal and state military awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Mississippi Commendation Medal and induction into the U.S. Cavalry and Armor Association's Order of Saint George.

Ty's military service has taught him the importance of preparation, sound judgment under pressure, and holding himself to a high standard, especially when decisions affect other people’s lives.

Family & Community Involvement

Ty is married to Dr. Hannah Beth Scott, a clinical audiologist at the University of Memphis Speech and Hearing Center. Together, they are grateful for the opportunity to raise their two sons in DeSoto County.

The Scotts are active members of Hernando Methodist Church. Ty has been invited to speak as a guest to various civic organizations and local schools. In 2017, he was selected for and completed the Leadership DeSoto program.

Ty believes deeply in this community and understands the essential role of the Chancery Court: protecting the vulnerable, resolving disputes fairly, and ensuring accountability under the law.

As a husband and father, Ty approaches the law with the understanding that every case represents real people and real families who deserve careful judgment of their cases.

Ty Scott is a member of the Army National Guard. Use of his military rank, job titles, and photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement by the Department of the Army or the DoD.
